After a long absence - HI to one and all. Yes I am alive and as usual...stressed. The show is over, I've slowly recuperated my energy - wonderful warm weather is around finally - jolting me out of this long winter, and it's depression...and now its time to dedicate some much needed attention to doing some work around the home as finally the decision was made to SELL - and move to a new place. I hope and pray that this new home will bring new vibrant energy and perhaps new dreams with it.

Painting at the moment seems like a distant dream - as my studio is packed up and growing dust already. I have decided to move back to classical painting once my life is settled and back in normal universe time. It has always been my favorite of all genre and thus - I feel that perhaps, that is what I should be painting.

Meanwhile, stay well and happy and I will pop in every once in a while to say hello and update you on the chaos of my life at present :)

Many walked and looked - and many made their own mind- but many asked what was it that I was painting - ??????
To me- the show was about a moment ...a deep perception which I felt in a split second ... and which affected me deeply enough to actually make an art show about - and simply put...I was deeply disappointed and ashamed how plastic and accessories-ed the world of women it has / or was becoming...and what hurt the most...it was seeing my self in those empty (mannequin like)lost souls looking for redemption by fitting in and belonging by at least THEIR fashion sense.

- That what defined us was the LABEL that we wore on our back...or the BAG that hung over our shoulder...or the $500 SHOES on our feet we strutted down on the black footpath or the road we were crossing...

-Maybe if we looked like something that stepped of a 'Vogue' runaway...it will make it all right. People wouldn't notice our internal fears and insecurities.

- The more diamonds, Brand-names & Famous Labels we put on our selves...the more in control and perfect we appear.

- The less everyone judges us.

- and it was a lonely place. Just like all the backgrounds in my images...hidden, shameful and desolate places...where we confront our selves with these issues- as we know deep inside we are better than the Label we ware...a place where no one will know our secret...

In that moment I lived and painted for many weeks...and now I suffer the emotional and physical exhaustion :)))

But it's a happy time for me now-I made my peace with the world - I know there is more to me than just a really good classy fashion appearance...and yes ...I have a very bad shoe fetish LOL ...which I am not even going to try to cure - I LOVE MY SHOES :)))

A big HI to all of you guys :)
Yes I am alive...yet stressed and tired. I have been sketching, re-sketching and more sketching, but....I have all 11 works now finalized and ready to start my oils - YAY !!!!

OHHHHHHHH....and 10 weeks to do it all in too :((((

It took me so long to get here...and even I can't believe the time it took me to get all these works to work together, and gel as one SHOW :((
But now- I am happy with them all, and I am to embark on the next step - OILS :))))

I have here 4 sketches out of 11 from the show, to give you some idea of where it is all going and to give u an idea of what the show ( for me) will be about. For the time being....these are my "Perceptions" :)))

A TRIBUTE to my BABY BROTHER

I thought I would do a post as a tribute to my 'baby brother Vlado & Jade's' Wedding. It was a very beautiful and emotional day for the whole family; a God given gorgeous sunny 22 degree day in Melbourne and a new beginning for a couple of very special and beautiful people that enrich my life every day.

I am just coming down from it's high actually.

It was on the 1st of May - last Saturday - (and which was also Rodney's and mine 17th year Wedding Anniversary also !!!!)
I was honored to share this date with my baby brother and my new SISTER JADE !!!!!
Here are some pictures from the day that will stay in my memory forever and I wish to share it with you.
I'm sure Jade will put some pictures up on her own Blog when she gets back from their 2 week honeymoon - ( she promised me she will do her best to make me an AUNTIE at the end of it LOL )

New Show- New Direction

Hi all :)))

Well, I think its time I announced my upcoming Art Show in August. It is a dual show, and I will be sharing the show with my sister in law - Jade -
so....I am stressed beyond words now. I have been hibernating and hiding for months searching for strength and inspiration to start on this show; and I finally did...
Today I feel dull and uninspired - exhausted after a tree day long hysterical brainstorming session - preparing, organizing and finalizing new works in thumbnail form - I have more than half of the works worked out, and a good start on two of the works in pencil outline on my primed MDF board...
Right now- I'm not sure I can do this :(
I wonder where all that excitement and eagerness went from 14 months ago when me and Jade planed and booked this show ????????
And I'm battling with the name of the show - today its 'PERCEPTIONS" ....maybe tomorrow it might be another name LOL....

One more good news - I am studding for the next few months with Erika Gofton again, this time in a Mentored class, mostly working with her on these new upcoming exhibition works.

After a Long Absence - HI !!!

First...a big HI to all of you...I do apologize for my long absence from the BLOG...but 2009 was a tough and demanding year, and 2010 has started on a similar note :(
I have been run down with work and kids and had all but stopped painting. I have completed my course with Erika Gofton...it was a wonderful experience and I did learn soooo much. I also discovered my love for Willow Charcoal, and bellow is one of the works I completed during the course in willow charcoal, and probably the only work worth showing here lol, as all the other ones are exercises and sketch type of works :)
I hope all of you are well and busy painting away, and I plan to spend the rest of the morning popping into all your blogs and catching up with all of you and the works I missed in the last 5 months.

ORIGINAL WORK

Well those of you that were following my blog last yerar this time, you would remember this work - it is a replica/copy of a Kosovo Maiden Work from 1956 - and it is for my hubby's 40TH Birthday as a present. I'm back on it again, after 12 months, as now I have 2 weeks to complete it in. Here are some earlier wips and the Original Version down the bottom - so all I'll be doing is adding newer Wips on the top of this post :)

Update on Two Upcoming Art Exhibitions

Hallo my dear friends :)
First I want to apologize to you all for being away for weeks now, but my life seems to be in TURBO speed at the moment and I'm struggling to keep up. Somehow there is just not enough hours in a day for me to stay on top of things. And I haven't managed to take any time out to paint either :(

YES....finally I got to see my 'Black Widow' on Page. 61 in *Midnight Echo Magazine* which has now been printed and release to the public...it is available to purchase for US$3.50 as a PDF download. I am all set to read the blood curling stories inside this magazine now, and if anyone is into Horror and Macabre writing and art, this is definitelly one of the best magazines on the market. Woo-Hoo - I can't believe I'm in print :)

BSG Openning Night

Well....what can I say, but that it was absolute madness with the amount of people that were there last night...these pics were taken after the winners were announced (not me by the way) and half of the people were leaving for some air out side, and that gave me enough space to actually put my hand out and take the pics. I lost my two teenage kids within 5min. in the crowed, and waited 30min. before I could even enter the main gallery room.
ohhh...and a word of warning, when you hear that it is an open call and no pre-selection, the nude and pornographic art will be EVERYWHERE- my 16 year old son finally enjoyed a gallery show - he didn't once ask "when's this finish' - I actually had to call their mobile numbers to ask where the hell they were in the gallery and to get their asses outside and meet me as I was finally ready to leave, and already planning a bottle of red to hit at home and cleanse my self of all the energy of all those people off me. I don't dael well with crowded places, and being rubbed and touched by hundreds of people-ughhhh yuckeeeee!!!
One thing that I found very sad and disappointing is that out of 4 big rooms, crowded with over 2500 works, there was only 4 red dots that I noticed...I guess art is still a luxury people are not ready to spend on.
The bottom pic has a red square that shows two of my works on the wall, the third is covered by the head of that man in front. All in all, another art experience I will not forget any time soon :) Cheers !!!!

Brunswick Street Gallery - 'Openning Night' this Friday 26th June, 6.00pm

As you all know, just a quick reminder that the 'Openning Night' for Small Works 09 is this Friday 26th of June, 2009, and it is at Brunswick Street Gallery, 322 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. This time I will sneak a few photos of the night and will post them up on Saturday. I expect it to be a great night and I'm getting excited about it now. There is over 200 artists participating and there will be over 2000 works on display from contemporary to traditional. I will keep you all posted & the three works above are my entries ;)

Once again, Midnight Echo Magazine will be publishing this work -
"IN SEARCH OF GREEN HORIZON" in their September Issue, and
there is a chance that it might make FRONT COVER - but all that is to be confirmed closer to the publishing date...and I will be here to let you know of the outcome!!!

My Black Widow painting has been published by this magazine already as most of you might know already, and the release of that issue is 1st July, so I will be posting that up as soon as I receive my copy of the magazine.

I have been busy with work as you all know so I havn't been blogging much, but I did keep up with everyone else's blogs and commented when I could. I have also been busy with some new works, at this stage its all preparation, composition of works and theme that I have been working on, but by July I should have some new works to show you ;)

Hallo my dear friends...just wanted to say sorry for being away for so long, but I am swamped with Architectural work at the moment and don't see any respite until June, when I can get back to some painting again hopefully. I've posted a pic of my painting 'In Search of green Horizon" - Oil on Canvas Board, recently completed, and its me dabbling in Surrealism...I love and admire this type of work, but I don't think I am deep or disturbed enough to make this a successful genre of art for me...or maybe I am LOL...so yeah...I'll just post some works from time to time, to remind you guys that I am thinking of you :) HUGS to ALL !!!

CAS Openning Night !!!

Well...last night was just WONDERFUL...the openning was a success and a FULL HOUSE, there were so many visitors that moving through the gallery was difficult, and the heat of so many bodies in such close proximity got unpleasent at one point. I wish to thank Dale & Sue, Jade & Vlads, my Mum & Daughter, & Desa for coming out last night and giving me their support...I had a wonderful night and is by far the best experiance of my art career. My work received lots of interest from the visitors, with many getting very close and personal with their inspection. Overall...it was the most WONDERFUL NIGHT !!!

One of the works is a work you guys a familiar with "Between the Shadows", but its now framed and ready to gooooo...but the other one is a study in pink "Pink Embrace". It is one of the many pastel sketches I have been doing as a study for my first Classical Nude...:), and this one looked too good to just discard and shove under my pile of sketches...so I framed it and is now available for purchase.
This sketch will probably be the one I use as the final, and be transferred onto a large canvas...my usual stuff...and that is to start very soon, as Enchanted Garden is nearly finished too.

I only just made a start on this one tonight, (there is a contest "My Secret Garden" on DA - http://karemelancholia.deviantart.com/journal/22691172/) and I thought I'll do this as my submission - also its the second WIP serias I'm going to share with you guys - this one as you can see is worked differently, no dead layers and no backround blockings...its thick lushes paint directly on canvas after brief sketch outline...its a little experiment I'm running for my self...WHY???
In the past two years I have been going back and forth between working in these two very different ways of painting...I want to decide which way I work better in, and compare the results in quality of the finished work in the end. That is where you lot will be asked to vote and give me your input as well.
I'm of to keep working for a few more hours on this, and then kleen up...you should see my pallett...what a mess...my brushed and my Oils hate me tonight :)

I have been dreaming of her lately, her green eyes haunting me...fallowing me through shadows and speeding scenes in my sleep...I plan to draw her big-bigger than Life painting, but this is for now a practice peice of the most beautiful face I had ever seen, yet I have not seen that face for 5 years now...I will never see that face again.
5 years ago we both set in a waiting room and waited for our names to be called...we both had the same horror story, same diagnosis...yet only one of us survived...why did I live???
...my love for this beautiful stranger will go on forever...

Its been such a long time since I did anything in pencils and pastels...my friend Maria from "Pencil Sanity" (you will find her among my fallowers) has inspired me to dig out the dusty boxes and say hallow to my old friends. While I was at Uni studing, all my presentational work was in pencil and pastel-5 YEARS OF IT- and than when I left Uni I left them behind too. This drawing was basically just me having fun with some old friends. I might frame this pencil and pastel lady and put her in my 'Small Works Shop' once I find a frame for her.

I finally got around to updating and upgrading my Architectural Web Site, but now-FINALY- My Art Web Site - (link is on the right hand side link menu) they share the same domain, but are now separate and independent of eachother. Also, there is a 'Art Works for Sale' section where I am selling some of my large original works, and everything is linked back and forth now...blog-web/web-blog.
Ahhhh...I feel so much better now, one less thing to constantly nag me in the back of my mind...yeah...this is how I spent my long weekend :)

I am totally overwhelmed at the moment...I just found my self in the Art Review section in the Contemporary Art Society Newslateer - Summer 2009. I have never been in the print before...this is the first time my Art and ME have made it into print, and it is a HUGE thing for me.
I literally fell of the couch and choked on my coffee once it dawned onto me that the painting I was looking at (which looked oddly familiar to me) was actually mine inside the Art Review section. The reviw was for the 'Under the Burnley Bridge Exhibition' which was staged last December, and wrote about a select few artists and artworks that the reviewer found worthy mentioning in name and detail...I was one of them. They had the above work in picture on the page and the fallowing statement under:
"Both 'Maiden Dusk Dance' and 'Feminine Fountain' works in Oil by Vesna Maksimovic offered contemporary and pleasing interpretations of 'La Primavera' (allegory od Spring), a work of early Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510), in which he depicted the three female figures representing the three Graces."

Here is a WIP of my new work...-'Between the Shadows...its where you will find me!'-its a bit of a free expression for me. I was working wet on wet in oils all the way, not caring about line edges mutch - I've been so disciplined and tight lately with the Competition works (artistically constapated to be honest) I felt like letting go and going back to some loose emotive work. Just letting go and letting the oils glide and slide dripping with liquin, mixing hues on the canvas directly...God it was fun!!! You could call this a -self portrait really, the photo was taken by my kids while at the beach, I had my eyes closed, soking in the sun and the breeze and the glorious salty air, my mind a thousand miles away, imagining some hot red abstract peice in my head...so I used that photo as a loose reference, altered it into a black and white image, isolated three main colours and just went from there...I might now just glaze it in that hot red and orange hues from my mind at the time of the photo ...this is as abstract as I can get in my art...talk about limited !!!
But I needed this work...I haven't been exploring lately within my art, I have been so focused on my "REAL WORKS" which is the serous side of this industry, and I have forgotten the joy of painting, of not thinking, not concentrating, but closing my eyes and feeling with my brush...I need to spend more time in this place...I hadn't realised how depressed I have been in the last few weeks ...art is the emotional side of me, and it seems to be the most fragile side of me too !!!

I celebrated my 40th Birthday last week on a 22nd January, and one of my friends bought me a whole set of Acrylic paints...well after some huffing and puffing ( as I was an ignorant fool towards Acrylic paints and always thought of them as somewhat less superior to quality compared to Oils) well I out of pure curiosity started these two wips- I AM HAVING A BALL WITH THEM... oils have tought me blendinding and planning already, so when I started with acrylic paints I couldn't stop- I LOVE THEM...there is no drying time to worry about, its just GO Go all the way...hmmmmm...I don't think I will give up my Oils just as yet, but I don't think I want to give the acrylics away now either...

Yesssss.......I did it, took the plunge and got their faces done, I'm pretty happy with the reuslt. Once the oil dries, than I can smooth out the edges with glazes and layers, so thir faces will hopefully be even smoother. Now that the pressure is off, I'll attack the rest of the picture.

I'm terrified at starting their faces-I feel this is my most critical area...if I stuff them up, than the painting is not worth the canvas its painted on. WHY?

Because this painting is as familiar to every peason that works through my front door, as is 'Mona Lisa" to the rest of the world!!!!

This poem and painting are my husbands (propbably) most favourite things in Serbian History. For his 40th Birthday I decided to paint him the painting (a replica) as a gift.

Both the work and history are very monumental and important to the Serbian Nation, and I hope I do justice to this work. The pressure is ON!!!!!!

Just a bit of backround info on this painting for those of you interested is listed below.

This Poem and Pinting was based on the Kosovo Battle in 1389!!

Artist - Uros Predic

(Kosovo 1389- The most important battle in Serbian history took place at Kosovo field on 28 June 1389 between armies led by the Serbian Prince Lazar and the Ottoman Turk Sultan Murad. The result, though inconclusive, (The battle of Kosovo is generally seen as a victory for the Ottomanshas ) been celebrated since in Serbian epic poetry as a defeat of great mystical significance, ushering in the end of Serbia's independence and the start of four centuries of Ottoman, Muslim domination and occupation over the people of Serbia. No accounts by participants in the battle survive, though it is accepted that both Murad and Lazar were killed. It is also estimated that over 100,000 lives were lost, although others claim three times large numbers than that were lost.)

I just completed these two paintings, and I will lauch my 'Small Works Art Shop' with these two ladies...I guess my art has always been drawn to Fantastical Realisam, and I suppose I am happiest painting in this theme.

At the moment they are small studies for some large works I plan to start in the next month or so...as well as completing 3 large works which have been siiting around and collecting dust on their pretty shiny oily surface. I have two more of these small works in the making and will post them up as soon as I finish them. I have 1 more week of work left in the office and than I'm planning a long x-mas break...which of course is just going to be a big painting party in my studio!!!!

Well...I am back after my Perth trip, it ended up being a 23hr day for me thanks to Virgin Blue and their notorious Flight Delays...but never the less...my day was BRILLIANT.
A million hugs and kisses to Jana and Petra, to their respective partners and Daniela (Jana's friend and student) for giving me their Saturday. I was basically pampered by them for most of the day, and of course main topic of conversation was Jana and the Art World. I spent a good hour and a half in the gallery and just emersed my self in the BRILLIANT art that has propelled and inspired me beyond words.
My art will take a turn at this point...Jana's art has inspired me to search and further improve my expression and drawing skills...and of course I will keep you all updated...

has the same rough texture
of modelling paste on the
edges and the canvas surface
has been primed and sanded down to smooth surface.
I guess here too I am exploring how the elements
juxterposition against eachother, the surreal against the
real, the figurative against abstract, smooth against the
rough...and so on. I still have no title for this work, but
than again it still might change a lot, so I'll title the work
once it's complete and I feel more about what it is
saying.
